Keep that Eerie number 2 pencil handy, because you never know when you might want to put your family in a fishbowl. Don your berets and paint a motorcyle on your garage door, people: we're gonna watch Who's Who.

+ can we talk about how completely oblivious Marshall is to the fucked-up-ness of fucked up families? Like. Sara Sue's obnoxious horrendous abusive as fuck family is RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIS DAMN FACE and he's still all "Families love and support each other and aren't perfect" and we're all "Mars, we know your family is stable and healthy, but not everyone's is!" and Simon's like "Um...leave them in Fishbowl? Can my parents join them?"

+ SARAH SUE! <3 I headcanon that she's secretly the daughter of a Greek Goddess. Also her brothers and dad are butt munches. Does her dad even work? How the hell have they not been evicted?

+ Was it just me, or did Syndi have it weird for the police guy?

+ speaking of, can we talk about the fact that the police of Eerie's slogan is "To serve and control" O.O

I love how sara sue is like, they deserve it and simons instantly like, shes got a point there, because yes, fuck those bastards right off.

and YES, marshall is really annoying at certain points in this episode. like, im aware hes still pretty young, but by thirteen you are completely capable of picking up when someones being a powercunt, esp. when its an adult doing it to a child, PARTICULARLY IF YOUR BEST FRIEND IS IN THE SAME POSITION AND LIVES RIGHT NEXT DOOR TO YOU.

ooooooh, which greek goddess? my headcanon says descendant of the muses.

same question with simons folks and todds, aswell - how are these people keeping a roof over their heads? I reckon a city council is providing some financial aid with a pretty steep bloodprice to be exacted later on in exchange for their 'help'.

I thouht that syndi was more excited about mars being the target of some police brutality than anything else. "arent you at least gonna rough him up?!" soon as sgt knight didnt go for it, she was like, jeez, and lost all interest.

in rtah theres an eerie police sign on jose shaffers office wall - I really wanna see that slogan on there!

yeah, like. Mars is weird about family. Maybe he's like...terrified his family will become like that so he's like "HOLD ON TO YOUR FAMILY HOLD ONTO IIIIIT"

or something.

um. IDK. I was gonna write a fic where she's basically persephone and Hades shows up and is all "YOUR POPS SAID I COULD HAVE YOU!" and Demeter swoops in like "OH HELL NO" and Sara Sue is like "Draws Hades in lots of weird and compromising positions then photos the results for blackmail purposes"

Yeah, true, though when she goes on the ride along later...iirc...

HAHA IT SO SHOULD BE!

the whole BUT FAAAAAAMMMMMIIILLLLLYYYY thing always sets my teeth on edge, so its nice to see it get called out. like, I get that a terrible home life isnt marshalls life experiance, but he should have seen enough of how other people live by now to realise his situation isnt every single person on earths exact situation.

OMG I WANT THAT. also, demeter in full on earth mother mode, just fucking shit up and taking back her babies.

yeah, Mars has a lot to learn and accept. I feel like part of him is just like...it's so far out of his experience personally that he just can't get his mind around it fully because y'know he's 13 and like his parents fight and stuff and he gets in trouble and they butt heads but like they make up so shouldn't all families be like that?

So when he's faced with this bullshit he just can't get his head around it yet and like. He might objectively realize that what he's saying is completely unhelpful and doesn't fit the situation but his experience of family feels to him like it should be THE experience of family because it makes the most sense to him so he just keeps spewing it and just can't wrap his mind around the concept that there are some things that cannot be fixed.

I feel like there's a lot of really good meta on Mars's need to fix things that are so utterly unfixable and his unwillingness to accept fucked up things that just ARE...

Demeter going full on earth mother and fucking shit up is the best

(im totally trying to work on a thing for the fic fest so in second imma turn the internet off and stop distracting myself, but I read this comment and it was too good to.not respond to)

in the few episodes where his parents do get cranky with each other, he freaks SO far out! like in the Losers where they argue about the briefcase and the banana extract and hes instantly like I HAVE TO FIND THE BRIEFCASE EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE DESTROYED IF WE DONT.

or in Loyal Order of Corn when marilyn is pissed that edgars spending all his time there instead of at home and Mars is like LOYAL ORDER IS EVIL AND DESTROYING MY FAMILY GOTTA INVESTIGATE AND BRING IT DOWN. and Simon is sympathetic, because Simon, but Dash is like, shut the fuck up, dont want to hear about how sad you are over tiny ripples in your perfect fucking family life.

and tho its okay to hate Tripp just for the fact that hes tobey maguire, mars was okay I
with just ignoring him until tripp messed with his family dynamic. which, honestly, comes off like a hilarious bout of trolling when its on tv, but would actually be pretty terrifying and cinderella-ish if it happened in real life.

I remember getting so mad at Marshall in this one when it first aired, because...seriously! And he never quite realizes how good he has it at any point. Despite Simon. Or Sara Sue. Or Dash. Which, I suppose, is truth in television given that he is thirteen. But one of the reasons I loved this show is they weren't afraid to have the terrible family stay terrible, even after the heartfelt speech by the kid.

Yes, how have they not been evicted? And the house seems way too nice. There's also no way they're going to be able to pay for all the stuff they broke in the World O' Stuff, so I hope Radford is well insured. (And that the insurance bill wasn't one of the things original Radford forgot to pay along with his taxes.)

Totally not just you, re: Syndi and the police guy.

Creepy Eerie P.D. is creepy. I always wondered if all the stuff they knew was going to come up in a future episode we never got to see.

I loved the epic motorcycle garage mural! And how in the midst of yelling, Edgar is so concerned that he not stifle Marshall's creativity in the process. Did the garage painting deal include Simon, or have the Tellers just accepted that he hangs around and helps do Marshall's chores with him? I feel like he should be getting an allowance out of this.

YES! I love that like Marshall does the whole long schpiel but that doesn't magically make things better. Like. So realistic.

I feel like Simon totally gets an allowance from the Tellers...he's basically theirs at this point anyway.

I love how mars is like, express your feelings and peeps will respect them, only to have sara sues perfectly reasonable need to not be treated like shit be utterly disregarded. like, way to go, kids tv, for actually admitting that sometimes a tool is a tool and all you can do is bail.

simon so totally wants to join the unkind ones when he grows up.

I have no trouble believing the tellers give simon an allowance; it seems a very marilyn n edgar thing to do.

im pretty sure eerie insurance covers acts of god(s) and is the first thing any small business owner pays, even before stock, utilities, or wages
